WHAT IS A PRAYER SHAWL?
It is a knitted or crocheted shawl made in compassion for an intended individual who is in need of prayer. Very soft yarns are selected and the donor prays endlessly for the recipient as they make the shawl. It provides another way of donating our time and talent to those in need. Like all acts of generosity this ministry enriches the donor as well as the recipient. Over the centuries, shawls have come to symbolize shelter, peace, and spiritual sustenance. The shawl provides the recipient with a sense of peace and comfort that surpasses human understanding. When the shawl has been completed, it is presented to the congregation so that they may enrich this ministry with their blessings upon the shawl. The Prayer Shawl Ministry allows us at Trinity to offer tangible evidence to those for whom we are praying. We are looking for anyone who is interested in knitting or crocheting prayer shawls. |
